Henry Stanley called it Ruwenzori a local name meaning rain-maker or cloud king its 5109m above sea level, Rwenzori is a block of rock up faulted through the floor of the western rift valley. They were christened the Mountains of the Moon by Alexandrine geographer. They lie in western Uganda along Uganda Congo border the Equatorial snow peaks include the 3rd highest point in Africa while the lower slopes are blanketed in moorland, bamboo and rich, montane forest. This mountain is a world class hiking and mountaineering destination.
